Girls Basketball Roundup — Local trio reaches regionals

CARROLLTON — Kynzie Newman led four Lady Bobcats in double-figures with 22 points as Celina defeated Dallas Madison, 75-49, in a Class 3A Region II quarterfinal game at Newman Smith on Tuesday night.

Presley Stastny added 19 points while Sarah Cantu and K.J. Stastny finished with 11 points apiece for Celina (31-3), which will face either Pittsburg or Lindale at 6 p.m. on Friday at Texas A&M-Commerce in a region semifinal contest.

Class 1A-I Region III

Sam Rayburn 52, Avery 35

PARIS — Sydney Davis had 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists as Sam Rayburn defeated Avery on Tuesday to advance to the regional tournament.

Cassidy Hall added 14 points and 10 rebounds, Torri Pannell chipped in 11 points and five assists and Sarah Foreman scored six points for Sam Rayburn (32-3), which will face either Lovelady or Broaddus in a region semifinal at 5 p.m. on Friday at Tyler Junior College.

Brea Glenn led Avery (26-6) with 17 points while the Lady Rebels held leading-scorer Taylor Bowles to just nine points.

Class 1A-II Region III

Slidell 42, Ector 32

HOWE — Kristan Huey scored 16 points in Ector’s region quarterfinal loss to Slidell on Tuesday night at Howe.

Brittney Crowell and Bailey Whitehead added five points each and Christi Abbott scored four points for Ector (19-12).
