Assault suspect jailed —Feb. 20, 301 W. Texas, Sgt. Paul Neumann. Police were called about 4:30 a.m. to a stabbing incident. The victim, Jack Dale Earnhart, told police that he and Christopher Darrell Bennett had fought and that Bennett had stabbed him several times. Denison EMS took Earnhart to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, reported as non-life-threatening.

Police arrested Bennett soon afterward at a relative’s home, Neumann reported.

The suspect was jailed on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon ($50,000 bail set), and then served with four warrants charging him with not having paid fines and court costs on previous convictions of possession of drugs, having a prohibited weapon in a correctional facility, and evading arrest with a vehicle.

Criminal mischief — Feb. 20, 318 West Morgan (Pathways High School), Officer Robby Carney. Someone broke a window out of a building at the school with damages estimated at $300.

Theft — Feb. 20, 600 block of N. U.S. 75, Officer Tom Fair. Someone stole a television, valued at $260, from a room. Lt. Mike Eppler said police are following up on leads.

Burglary of habitation — Feb. 2, 600 block E. Woodard, Officer Mark Hilliard. A complainant stated he is missing a wall heater, valued at $400, from his rental property and police are following up on leads.

Sexual offense against a child — Feb. 19, 1100 block W. Main, Officer Jason Colvard. A caller asked for police to check on the activities involving a 63-year-old man and a pre-school-age child at a laundromat. Colvard’s report said he noticed upon arrival that the suspect’s belt was not fastened. He separate the suspect and the child and spoke with the caller, who told him he has witnessed the suspect unzip his pants and then sit the child on his lap. The witness reported seeing several sexual abuse acts. Colvard found evidence on the suspect and arrested him on a charge of child sexual abuse.

Malicious injury to ATM — Feb. 16, 2024 University Blvd. (First United Bank), Officer Wes Crank. The report states that damage was done to an automatic teller machine, without description to the damage. Detective Brian Chavez asked that anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious person or activity around the ATM call the Durant Crime tip line at 580-924-8845.

Larceny of automobile — Feb. 19, 1100 block Mulberry, Officer Russell Harkey. Between 5 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, someone got into a 2010 GMC Sierra pickup, which was possibly left unlocked. Taken was a .22-caliber Henry-brand rifle, serial # GB247791, Model # H004, valued at $800.

Burglaries to storage units — 405 N. 49th Ave. (Westside Storage), Detective Brian Chavez reporting. Between October and December, someone broke into five storage units, plus another two units in the A-1 Storage building in Calera. Durant P.D. C.I.D. and Calera police executed a search warrant at a unit in the Westside Storage and found the stolen items. Chavez asked that if anyone else has had a storage unit burglarized, please contact Sgt. Rocky McDaniel at the Durant P.D.

Sherman P.D.

Sexual assault arrest — Feb. 19, Sgt. Bruce Dawsey reporting. Sherman police arrested a 19-year-old man on a charge of indecency with a child by sexual contact. The officer was patrolling a park when he became suspicious about a parked vehicle. Inside it, he found the suspect with a teenage girl, more than 3 years younger than the suspect, Dawsey said. The suspect posted $15,000 bail in surety bonds later Monday.

Burglary of pickup — Feb. 19, 3600 block S. U.S. 75, Telephone report. Between 2:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, somebody got inside a locked 2001 Ford F150 pickup. Entry was made by removing a lock on the door. Taken were stereo equipment and tools.

Assault — Feb. 20, Kathleen Court, Officer Tony Walden. A woman reported that, about 10 p.m., her husband became angry after she broke his cigarette lighter, so he used a closed fist and punched her in the back of the head. No arrests have yet been made.

Theft of ID — Feb. 20, Officer Jeff Jones. A man reported to police that he took his financial information in to a tax preparer, where he learned that someone had already filed a 2011 tax return under his Social Security number.

Assault and arrests — Feb. 20, 11 p.m., 900 block S. FM 1417, Officer Tony Walden. Someone called police about a disturbance. Walden said he learned there that a man and woman got into a fight. Because both had physical injuries, he jailed both of them on charges of assault causing injury-family violence. Both posted bail of $1,500 in surety bonds Tuesday.

Grayson County S.O.

Drug and parole violation arrests — Feb. 20, Texoma Parkway, Sgt. Rickey Wheeler reporting. Sheriff’s Office investigators Harvey Smitherman and Robert McCrary and Deputy Marty Hall served a parole violation warrant on Darron Wilson, 27, from Bells. They had information that Wilson was in a motel on Texoma Parkway, and after confirming the room he was in, went into the room. Wilson wasn’t in view, and Wheeler reported there were several other people in the room. Eventually, Wilson came out of the bathroom, which had been locked, and they took him into custody. He remains incarcerated on the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles warrant charging him with parole violation, which does not allow for any bail, plus several Sherman city warrants with cash bonds required of more than $1,000.

Hall noticed a small green baggie which contained what the deputies confirmed was methamphetamine laying in plain view on top of a dresser in the room. One of the occupants, Christopher Brian Martin, 28, of Sherman, stated that it was his, Wheeler said. Deputies jailed him on a charge of possession of controlled substance (meth) between 4-200 grams, with bail set at $15,000, and a warrant charging him with theft by check, adding an additional $1,500 bail. He remains in Grayson County Jail.

Bonham P.D.

Assault — Feb. 16, 1500 block Poplar, Officer Joshua Cunningham. An assault victim went to the police station to make a report, stating her boyfriend had broken her hand. The report states that they argued and she packed her bags to leave. When she was walking out of the house, he grabbed her and pushed her down. She again tried to leave, and this time, the report states, the suspect grabbed her hand and bent it backward toward her. She heard it pop and said there was pain in the action. She waited until the next day to seek medical help, and learned the hand was broken.

Police are continuing the investigation.

Assault — Feb. 17, 500 block W 11th St., Ptl. Cory Brookshire. On Friday, another woman went to the police station, showing signs of injury including a swollen face and cuts around her eyes. Brookshire’s report states that the victim was at home when she heard her car alarm going off. She walked outside and saw her ex-boyfriend walking away from her vehicle. The victim then went to her car to see if any property was missing and noticed that her cell phone was gone.

The report said the victim confronted the suspect and told him that if he didn’t return the phone, she would contact police. He punched her in the face and pushed her to the ground, the report continues. Then, he sat on top of her and choked her. She broke free, and then drove to the police station.

This investigation is also continuing.

Theft — Feb. 17, 1300 block W. Sam Rayburn, Cpl. Robert Houser. A business owner told police that a utility trailer containing a welder, torch, and supplies was stolen from the lot. Police are continuing their investigation.

DWI arrest — Feb. 18, 1500 block Island Bayou, Sgt. Tammy Boehler. While on routine patrol, Boehler saw a car in a ditch, with an occupant still in the driver’s seat. She made contact with the driver, and got his identity. While talking with him, Boehler smelled a strong odor of alcohol about him, and so placed him through a field sobriety test, which he failed, the report states. She then got a breath sample and arrested him on a charge of driving while intoxicated. When Boehler searched the suspect she found drug paraphernalia in a pocket, and also charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia.

DWI Arrest — Feb. 20, 100 block U.S. 82, Cpl. Rick Burns. Someone called police about a driver who had left his car at an intersection. Witnesses told police that the driver ran a red light and nearly collided with their own vehicle. Then, he got out and walked.

Police found the suspect, still walking, and determined he was intoxicated. They jailed the suspect on a charge of driving while intoxicated, 3rd or more offense.
