Every child is born with some amount of music aptitude or the potential to achieve in music and Grayson County College’s Center for Workplace Learning is offering a couple of classes to help the little ones get started. And, adults who want to try their artistic skills can get started with a new Watercolor and Ink course. All three of these courses start this week at GCC.
Heidi Scheibmeir leads the “Little Musicians” classes. She cites research that shows the critical period for learning music is birth through age 9. The Little Musicians is geared to two age groups: children aged newborn to 24 months and mixed ages (newborn to 4+ years), which is ideal for parents who want to enroll siblings. Parental involvement is required in this interactive class. Sessions are scheduled to meet from 10:15-10:55 a.m. Friday mornings Feb. 24-May 4 in CWL Seminar Room A on GCC’s Main Campus. Fee is $120, and tuition discounts may be available for second (10%) and third (50%) children from the same family.
Water Color & Ink classes will explore watercolor techniques and will combine various drawing tools. Emphasis will be on composition using toned backgrounds and highlights to define volume, atmosphere and shadow. Participants will spend time learning from old masters. In addition, topics will include landscapes, animals, nature objects, architectural structures and local scenes. Innovation and creative ideas will enhance visual color depth and dimension in the compositions.
Art sessions are scheduled to meet from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evenings Feb. 23-April 19 in CWL Seminar Room A on GCC’s Main Campus. Fee is $50.
